Hello everyone,
I am sending this reminder to let you know we are planning an informal, no host dinner gathering on Friday night, October 6th, which is the evening of our SJHS afternoon tour.
It was originally intended for those of us "out of towners" who will be staying in nearby Morgan Hill motels for the reunion weekend. However, we want to extend the invitation to anyone who wants to get together on Friday evening and enjoy a meal and memories and to also "catch up" on our "today" lives.
If you are at all interested in adding this event to your reunion agenda (after all, you do have to have dinner somewhere!), then please let me know. We'd like to have an advance indication of interest.
At this point, I've visited a restaurant in Morgan Hill that could accommodate a smaller group (under 20). It's a casual place with good seafood and moderate prices. If we receive a larger response, then we'll find somewhere else. There's a great Italian restaurant in the area, too, if that is preferred.
We'll need to make our reservations by the end of September, so please don't hesitate to let me know as soon as you can -- yes or no -- this way we can be assured you did hear about it.
In case you haven't noticed -- our reunion weekend is just 9 weeks away!
If you've already registered, then let me know via return email, of your interest or non-interest in joining us for a Friday night dinner.
If you haven't registered, then we encourage you to do so -- for all or some of the weekend's planned events.
In the meantime, please email me "yes or no" about the Friday night dinner -- drabump@aol.com
I'll respond that I received your reply -- and thanks.
Looking forward to a wonderful weekend of celebration -- good folks, good memories and good times!

Watching the San Jose pre-grand prix race stuff on TV reminds of the old days when we used to "drag" along First St. Oh goodness, these modern race cars are quite different from the jalopies we used to cruise around in.
The old town has changed that's for sure.
One of my friends took a position in the English Dept. at San Jose State and sent me a note spelling San Jóse with an accent. I laughed out loud. We certainly never gave San Jose such airs! We (the locals) have always called it "Sanazay" anyway. No fancy stuff for us!
Looking forward to seeing you all at the reunion.

Will not be able to attend the big 50th reunion this year - needless to say a big disappointment. In fact, sorry to have missed the previous reunions. Just by happen-chance found the website & learned they even took place. A big thank you must go out to all the hard-workers that kept the reunions happening.
My husband & I are retired & taken on the lifestyle of full time RVing these past 2 years. We think this lifestyle may continue for at least another 5 years. So much to see, learn & experience right here in these United States. Our homebase is in Jamestown, CA. This year we are traveling the east coast. At this writing we are in Niagara Falls (with grandchildren) & plan to stay in the northeast thru the autumn colors.
Again, sorry to miss all the fun & big kudos to those that keep the reunions happening.

I wish I could attend this years reunion but unable to take time off from work at that time. I am still working at a casino in Dayton Nevada.
If you don't know were Dayton is well it is 13 miles east of Carson City. A little town getting very big. I moved here 2 years ago and love it. I have a large home here and it keeps me going all the time.

I do security work at the casino, great people to work for. If any of you are in Reno,Tahoe and want to visit I'm only about 50 mins from there, 15 mins from Carson City. I do a lot of ATV riding in the hills around the area. Yes at 69 life is to short, live for today. If you wish to E-Mail me you can at amad534@aol.com or call me at 775-246-8303.

I don't know how many of you remember "Lou's Donuts" on the corner of 16th and Santa Clara Street, but yesterday 7/27/06, it closed after being in business for 51 years.
I remember stopping by many times when walking home from SJHS to buy the great chocolate glazed donuts that you could not get any where else.
Lou's moved to Delmas and Auzerais Avenue and added to their name becoming: "Lou's Living Donut Museum".They had pictures of the first owner Lou Ades, a WWII bomber pilot who died in 1997.
Also patriotic posters, Plaques and pictures honoring the troops as well as firefighter, police officers and many of men and women in uniform.
I, my husband and family had continued to go there but not as often as I would have liked.
The donuts were out of this world, made from scratch (no mixes) from Lou Ades secret recipes.
Not much is left in San Jose from the '50's.
What do you remember about San Jose in the '50's?

It sounds like a lot of fun but I will not be able to make it this time.
Taking 3 days off work is a lot for me to do and a very long trip
from Dayton Nevada. Wish I was closer.
Again Im sorry.

Hello fellow 1956 graduates of San Jose High School...
It's that time again and this one’s the "BIG FIVE OH". We're in the process of planning our milestone reunion and we need your input on what kind of event we should have. The attached questionnaire offers several choices about when, what and how much. Please take a minute or two to fill it out and return it so that thecommittee can start making firm plans for 2006.
Think about it... when we graduated in 1956, the 50th reunion held that year was for SJHS grads of 1906!!! They must be ancient, we all thought. Now our 50th is here and I don't know about you, but I don't feel ancient. I may look it, but I surely don't feel it (well, OK, maybe on some days I do).
Our reunions over the years have gotten progressively better and we want to make this one the best yet, but we do need your thoughts and opinions. Keep in mind that we're probably not going to be able to satisfy everyone's wishes, but we do want to plan the kind of event that most people want.
Thanks in advance for your input. We'd like you to return the questionnaire by October 15th, 2005, so that we can start making definite plans. The return addresses are at the end of the questionnaire.
We'll see you at the 50th!
Vic's Letter Dec. 2005
HELLO 1956 GRADS OF SAN JOSE HIGH SCHOOL
We have some news to report and a request for assistance. Please reserve Friday, Oct. 6, Saturday, Oct. 7 and Sunday Oct. 8, 2006 for our 50th reunion weekend!!!.
The results of our questionnaire showed a strong preference for an afternoon picnic/barbeque, similar to what we had at our 45th reunion. Of 86 responses, 58 (67%) indicated they wanted an afternoon event.
64 of 84 responses (76%) preferred October/November as the best time for the reunion.
54 of 84 responses (64%) said that a maximum of $75 per person would be an appropriate cost.
42 of 81 replies (52%) said they would be interested in a tour of San Jose High.
The tentative schedule, then, is as follows:
On Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, there will be a tour of SJHS. We haven’t set a time yet with SJHS Administration, but it will more than likely be in the afternoon. As we get closer to the reunion, we will have a time established and will ask for confirmation of attendance. There will be no cost for this activity.
Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006 will be the date of the reunion. The site will be The Culinary Express, located at 380 W. Dunne Ave. in Morgan Hill. We’re in the process of working out more details, but we believe you will be pleased with our selection. It has both indoor and outdoor facilities, so weather will not be a factor. And we will have the entire venue to ourselves. We’re working on the time, menu, price, etc. and we will be in touch with you early in 2006 with more information. We’re also working to get hotel discounts in Morgan Hill for those of you who wish to stay overnight.
Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006 we will offer a breakfast/brunch, also to be held at the Culinary Express in Morgan Hill. There will probably be an additional cost for this, as not everyone will want to participate. Again, more information will be forthcoming as we finalize the details.
We’re also working on a couple of other things which we hope will make our 50th reunion one to remember and cherish. We’ll have more on these as we progress.
Now, a request for help, click on “People we can’t find” and you will find a list of classmates whom we’ve not been able to contact. If you have any information (phone numbers/addresses/e-mail addresses/relatives/friends/friends of friends) about them, please let us know so that we can try to get in touch with them. We would greatly appreciate any leads you can provide.
WE WISH YOU ALL A VERY HAPPY HOLIDAY SEASON!!!
